The vineyard wedding theme is one of my favorite wedding themes. Think of a romantic
wedding in Napa Valley, Sonoma or your local winery. Or the wedding celebration in a
Sicilian vineyard in the 'Godfather'. I think I'm partial to this theme because both of my
grandfathers had grape arbors and both make homemade wine. The wine press was a
part of my life, but I preferred to pick the grapes and eat them off the vine. I remember
sitting under the grape arbors and enjoying the smell of the grapes and the beauty of the
leaves and their curling tendrils. You can even recreate a winery atmosphere in your
own back yard.
Vineyard weddings and receptions can take place inside or outside. Vineyard weddings
feature mounds of fresh food artfully arranged on tables and of course, wine. Drinking
wine at weddings goes back to biblical times and is used in many wedding and religious
ceremonies. The grape has always been associated with good luck, love and
abundance, which makes it a perfect wedding theme.
Since grapes and vineyards seem to spell romance, I see the bride in a romantic, lacy
dress. The lace is traditional, the styling contemporary. Both dresses in my collage are
by Casablanca Bridal. The maids are by Raylia Designs.
Think about adding grape leaves to your wedding bouquets and to your floral
centerpieces. I envision multi colored flowers intertwined with grapes and grape leaves
in the centerpieces and accents.
Naturally, everyone envisions purple as a color to use with a vineyard wedding because
we think of grapes as being purple. Concord grapes are purple, but grapes come in
shades of burgundy reds and light green.
If you decide on any of these colors as your color palette, you can accent with any other
shade of grapes, the burgundy, the purple concord grape color or greens including lime
green.
Your bridesmaids can wear long dresses or tea length dresses. If you have an outdoor
vineyard wedding, choose a dress that will make it easy for you to navigate the outdoors.
