Sunflowers are a sign of summer, good luck, loyalty and longevity  and something I'm sure you didn't
know: they are a sign of hope to cancer patients.  Sunflowers are a great way to honor a member of the
family that has passed or a personal triumph over cancer.

Sunflowers grow towards the sun and move with the rays as the day progresses.  They face east in the
morning and return to the east in the evening.  An interesting fact is that the florets grow into spirals.

A gift of a sunflower is considered a gift of warmth, working back to the sun and the yellow, orange or red
petals that simulate the sun.    They are unique because they provide beauty in the flower and
nourishment in the seeds.

Sunflowers are the perfect theme for a summer or fall wedding.

Fun sunflower  facts:

The sunflower is the official state flower of Kansas

In China the sunflower symbolises longevity
.
In 1532 in Peru the natives were found worshipping a giant sunflower which they believed represented
their sun god.  Inca priestesses wore bold gold discs designed as sunflowers.

In Central and North America they have been used to make medicine, sunflower oil and dye for fabrics
and wood.

Sunflowers come in 28 different varieties with different sizes and colors variations.

Sunflower wedding color palettes:

With sunflowers, you can go toward an earth tone palette or to a more cool blue toned color palette. You
can also use sunflowers against navy blue, black, red or shades of green.

For earth tones, use a gold/yellow/orange/brown palette.   You can add olive green,  rust, pumpkin
orange, deep peach and  bronze.

For a blue color palette, use a medium blue, accent with a meadow green and lemon yellow.

For a red color palette, use red, gold and yellow with sunflowers.

Sunflowers make everyone smile because they are such a happy flower!

Sunflowers make a dramatic punch to your floral bouquets.  Since sunflowers come in all sizes and even
colors, you can go subtle or bold.  There are small sunflowers that work perfectly in a bouquet and
medium to large flowers that add drama to the centerpieces.  Sunflowers also hold up in the heat and
during a long wedding day.
