Shopping for your wedding dress!

Bet you didn't know that there is a BEST time to buy your wedding dress
and save a lot of cash!
During the doldrum months of November and December, any full service bridal shop will welcome your
business with open arms. The reason? All brides are in holiday mode and there is little happening in
the bridal salon. Sales are down and new stock merchandise is arriving by the truckload and they have
to pay for it. They need to clear out the racks to make room for the new merchandise. Bottom line, they
will be willing to deal and you win.

Shop during the day during the week in November or December. Not only will you get their full attention,
you won't have to wait for dressing room time.

Nicely ask if there is a discount if you buy the sample dress. All they can say is no.
Nicely ask if there are any specials available to you. All they can say is no.
Nicely ask if there is anything they can do for you if you are willing to buy today. BUY TODAY is the key.
Don't expect them to keep the offer on the table while you comb the world looking for a better deal. You
need to be in the buying mode if you ask.

You may be pleasantly surprised at the discounts or the specials they will offer you. The bridal salons
need to pay the rent, utilities, insurance and payroll during the slow times PLUS pay for all the new
merchandise that is arriving. Bridal salons are willing to negotiate. (This won't work at corporate big box
stores. )

Ask nicely, be nice and smile. The nicer you are, the farther you'll get. If you are demanding, you will get
nowhere. If you are a genuinely nice person, who knows what you can save?

Attend bridal shows.  Bridal salons always offer great show discounts and you'll get an idea of fashions
you'll want to try on.

Are you going crazy looking for a jacket for your
wedding dress?    We've found them for you!
Wedding dress jackets are nearly impossible to
find because very few bridal dress
manufacturers make them.  We know some
brides want to cover their arms and some
churches require them.

Dress Shopping Tips

Don't shop when you are
tired, cranky or hungry.

Don't shop with a posse of
friends and relatives.  You'll
be confused and their
tastes will be different than
what you envision wearing
at your wedding.  Shop with
a trusted friend, sister or
your mother.  Shopping
with a posse sounds like a
lot of fun, but its frustrating
and confusing for the bride.
 Show them your choice
after you buy the dress.

Shop within your budget.
Don't look at dresses out of
your price range or you'll
be upset and frustrated
when "the one" is out of
your financial reach.

Wear undergarments
when you shop so you
avoid being embarrassed
when you are being helped
into dresses.

Bring along a pair of heels
so you can see how the
length of the dress works
for you.  You'll also see
how the dress flows when
you walk.

Shower before you shop.

Bring along a scrunchy to
pull up your hair to see how
the dress will look with
your hair up or down.

Wear clothes that are easy
to get in and out of to make
changing and trying on
dresses easier

Shop at least 6 months in
advance for your dress,
the ideal shopping time is 8
to 12months before your
wedding.   Anything later
may cause you to have to
pay the manufacturer rush
fees.

Don't over schedule your
shopping trip.  Too many
shops and too many
dresses will give you white
blur.  All the dresses will
start to look alike and you'll
be confused.

When you get tired, stop
shopping.

Be open to trying on
different styles when
shopping.  Your dream
dress could be totally
different from the vision in
your fantasy.

Don't expect to find your
dress in your color and
your size to try on.  If you
do, consider it an omen.
Bridal shops can't possibly
stock every color and size
combination.

Don't forget to check out
the sale rack.  Every bridal
salon has a sale rack.

Ask if the shop is having
any specials or sales in the
future.

A cheap wedding dress is
not a bargain if it needs to
be remade.  Make sure the
fit is good, the top stays up
and is comfortable.

Expect to pay for
alterations to your wedding
dress.

Don't let a pushy
salesperson talk you into
something you don't really
want.  Buy if you love it,
don't be talked into it.
You'll regret it.

Types of wedding dresses bridal gowns:

Formal Wedding dress: worn to a formal wedding.  This is the traditional wedding dress with train. A
formal wedding dress is sometimes called a bridal gown.

Informal wedding dress:  worn to an informal, destination, beach, garden or outdoor wedding.  It has a
sweep train or no train.  Usually a sleeker dress, but it can be a formal dress with no train.  It can have
beading and lace.  A beach wedding dress is an informal dress, usually of a lighter weight fabric like
fully lined chiffon and has no train or a sweep train.

Learn the difference between a cheap wedding dress and a bargain wedding dress.  A cheap dress
is fashioned of lesser quality fabric, may have glued on beadings and embellishments.  The fit is not
as good.   A bargain wedding dress is a dress that is a quality dress with hand sewn embellishments,
hand sewn beadwork and made with quality fabric.  A bargain wedding dress is a dress that is on sale,
could be a manufacturers sample dress, can be discontinued by the manufacturer or bridal salon,
or from a canceled wedding.

eBay:  Shopping For Your Wedding Dress

eBay is a great source of bargains when shopping for your wedding dress.
Many bridal salons sell their sample, discontinued and overstock
wedding dresses on eBay.   You'll find brand new, never worn, never altered
wedding dresses at below wholesale pricing.  The bridal salons need to
sell their merchandise to make room for new merchandise and its a win/win
situation for the bride.

Pay special attention to the size of the dress before you bid because
wedding dresses run smaller than our everyday clothing.  If you are in doubt,
email the seller and ask questions about the size.  They'll help you
determine if the dress will fit you.   Most dresses have 2" of seams to let out,
but not all, so if the dress is a bit snug for you, ask the seller if the dress can
be let out.  All dresses can be taken in, a good seamstress can alter down a
dress two sizes.
