Breakfast at Tiffany's is a movie starring Audrey Hepburn based on a novel by Truman Capote. The main character is a whimsical socialite Holly Golightly. Audrey Hepburn has long been the style icon of sophistication, style and elegance.
If you want to use Breakfast at Tiffany's as your wedding theme, think style and elegance and simple for your wedding dress. A thin column dress, a scoop neckline, rock the pearls and rock the gloves. Cigarette holder is optional, as is the gigantic hat. Or stick to the period and go tea length or a full tea length skirt with defined waistline and of course, the demure top.
Your color theme should be Tiffany blue. Since Tiffany's holds the copyright on the name Tiffany Blue, you'll have to refer to the previous page to find the exact color name when searching bridesmaid dresses.
To get the feeling of Tiffany's, pair it up with dove gray, black tuxedos and metallic silver accents and sparkling crystals. Tiffany's has an elegant pared down look, so don't overdo or overdecorate. Just think simple and elegant. Your maids can wear black, gray or Tiffany blue with pearls. The length of their dresses should match the length of your dress. And if you decide to wear gloves, have your attendants wear the opera length gloves, also. If you wear the long gloves, the style at the time was to wear a glitzy bracelet over the gloves.
If you decide not to wear the Kentucky Derby style hat, a small face veil with some adornments at the side will match the era WITH the tiara. Holly Golightly always wore her tiara. Look at the pics below to duplicate the look. And don't forget the big sunglasses for wedding pictures.
As for shoes, you can wear demure pumps or strappy shoes. The current rage is Cynthia Rowley's blue soled shoes that all feature the sole in a blue that is ultra close to the trademarked Tiffany color. You can also have the shoe dyed T-blue.
Now that you've figured out the most important part, dressing yourself (wink) its time to put the theme in motion.
Breakfast at Tiffany's theme is usually a late morning wedding with a breakfast brunch. Serve mimosas or have a signature blue drink to match the decor. Add coffee, juices and have white gloved waiters pass finger foods, mini quiches, cheese puffs, etc. Have a bar set up with fresh fruit in bowls or done up in kabobs, danish, muffins and mini bagel and croissant sandwiches.
Or serve a full blown brunch with quiche, a carving station, light salads, fruits, an assortment of cheeses and breads, muffins, danish. You can have cooking stations surrounding the reception hall.
Of course, you'll need music and you'll have to play Henry Mancini's music from the movie during the dinner. For your first dance, have a talented singer sing the theme song from the movie, "Moon River" If you have no family or friends who are great singers, use the original recording.
Decorate with over sized champagne glasses spilling over pearls and crystals you've purchased from flea markets, craft stores or garage sales. For favors, buy small tiffany blue colored boxes and fill with candy, wrap with a white satin bow to duplicate the look of one of those precious blue boxes. White tablecloths will showcase the simple blue framed table numbers and the box favors.
Search eBay for real Tiffany boxes that you can stack and glue together, wrap with a bow and cut a slit in the top for your money box.
Click to find Tiffany boxes on eBay. Click on the link to search directly. I've purchased them on eBay for bridal show tables and its probably the only place you'll find them outside of Tiffany's. And you won't get a Tiffany's box without buying a product. So check eBay first.
